History: Since the beginning of the nineteenth century, during the Austrian domination, it was built a fort on the island, home to a small military Austrian garrison (1815-1866) for oversee access to the south-east of the swamp. Its construction was carried out by the French army who came into possession of the Venetian territories thanks to the agreement of Pressburg in 1806, when the according believed necessary for the strengthening of the north coast in the defense plan for Venice, written by engineer Label.
With regard to the recent past of the island, it may be recalled that it, following the divestment of most military installations lagoon, was given in concession to private persons who have provided over the years to the restoration of the existing building and the excellent maintenance of the island.
