Description

 

Place: Fascinating monastery of the fifth century A.D. transformed over time into Historical Residence. Immersed in the enchanting landscape of the Spoleto countryside, perched on the rocky slopes of the mountain covered with a magnificent Mediterranean-sub-mountain holm oak wood.

Buildings: Ancient monastery, private chapel. The property is of historical and architectural interest of great importance and it's constrained by the Superintendence for Architectural Heritage and Landscapee.

 

History: Over a primitive hermitage, which constitutes the original nucleus of the monastery, in the early sixteenth century a monk built a modest little house, then enlarged in 1596 by the bishop which also built the first plant of the church. It became the new headquarters of the Congregation of the Hermits and the prior's residence following the departure of the Benedictine abbey. The house and the church, were enlarged in the early '700 by Cardinal. In the late eighteenth century, with the death of the last hermit, the convent was uninhabited. Re-used in 1815 by the canon that we instituted a School of Fine Arts, passed, after 1860, the Congregation of Charity.

 

Ancient monastery: In 1991 the monastery was transformed into a prestigious dwelling with 10 guestrooms. All rooms are furnished with particular attention to the class and every single piece of furniture in respect of the Umbrian rural tradition. The building has no elevator.

- Ground floor: from the atrium you can access to the terrace of the cloister (150 pax), refectory, interior rooms used as a restaurant and meeting rooms (total capacity 70 people), professional kitchen, utility rooms, cave.

- First floor: Appealing arcade, guest rooms with private bathrooms (obtained in 1921 from the ancient cells of the monks who, despite having changed the destination, have preserved the ancient form and decorations adorning), Church, Library.

- Second floor / Mansard: Guest rooms with living rooms and private bathrooms (obtained in the 70 from the premises that from 1815 to 1860 hosted the School of Fine Arts). All rooms are air-conditioned.

 

Conditions: the result of the restoration carried out in the early twentieth century, the monastery has substantially unchanged preserved its ancient appearance.

 

Private chapel: Built by the Olivetans monks of the Benedictine Congregationon an Etruscan stratification and was originally in Romanesque style.

 

Church: Internal to the structure and located on the first floor, was erected in 1727 on the site of an existing analogue sacred building. Decorated with frescoes, it is equipped with a curious window placed above the altar, which overlooks what was originally the room of the prior. Of particular interest are the small and elegant library and the late sixteenth century frescoes decorating the chapel of the Virgin depicting the stories given in six panels.

 

Land: The settlement has several floors of a terraced plot, with magnificent views of Spoleto. Preserves the signs of the ancient function, is indeed almost no land, only it has a small garden with swimming pool and beautiful terraces differently equipped
